You have all heard the dangers of smoking. It CAUSES lung cancer and is 1 of 7 Primary Risk Factors for cardiovascular disease. And, cardiovascular disease will kill 1 out of every 3 people that develop it.
Now, what if I told you that a sedentary life (a.k.a. an inactive life) is the NEW SMOKING? It doesn't sound believable right? How could inactivity become just as negative as inhaling smoke?
The answer is that the lack of inactivity can lead to a chain of events that ultimately inflame and/or damage the cardiovascular system in your body similar to the effects of smoking. This is bad. Very Bad!
Here is the primary problem: Most people think they are getting enough activity during the week, but in reality the majority are not even close to the amount they need.
That specific number is 150 minutes. Let's break that down:
- 150 minutes, 1 day a week (not your best option)
- 50 minutes, 3 days a week
- 30 minutes, 5 days a week
- 15 minutes, 10 days a week (Yea this one isn't possible) -- so that whole 10 minutes a day is totally inaccurate, unless it is high intensity (vigorous) activity. But remember, most people this applies to are sedentary to begin with, so they will not be able to do vigorous activity safely, so back to my main point - It's not going to work!
Yes some activity is ALWAYS better than none. But you need to know the realities here.
You need to create a routine that you can consistently get your 150 minutes in per week.
